Filters Lane is unmissable walking down Caine Road in the Mid-Levels of Hong Kong. I thought I'd give their beans a try. I tried a 100g sample bag ($80 HKD) of a 'Kenya AA' (no further information on origin/crop), which smells fruity with berry-like notes. It is a medium roast, from the looks of it around the end of first crack.
Brewed here using a V60 at a 20g/330ml ratio at 88 degrees. It produces a mild, slightly sour cherry/blackberry-type brew. And it has that amazing burnt red colour that only some coffees produce.
Filters Lane opened 9 months ago according to the staff (so I presume Feb/Mar 2014) and is just right of the Mid-Levels escalators. They have a good selection of beans (not overdone), brew methods and equipment, and is definitely worth a visit.
